What is the Butterfly Seat?
The Buttafly is a revolutionary support to allow effortless cross-legged sitting with good posture. The Buttafly allows you to sit with good spinal alignment, when the body is comfortable, the nervous system relaxes and this can release tension and re-establish optimal alignment.
Why is your posture so important?
A slumped (forward) posture can increase downward pressure on the pelvic floor this can impact on symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction including prolapse, bladder or bowel incontinence or pelvic pain.
Correct posture improves ones ability to correctly perform pelvic floor exercises. Your strengthening exercises will be most effective and successful with the correct spinal alignment.
Correct posture promotes deep abdominal muscle activity. Your deep abdominal muscles also play a role in supporting your pelvic organs and promoting bladder and bowel control.
Correct posture enhances diaphragmatic breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing exercises can help to promote appropiate helpful breathing patterns that enhance pelvic floor muscle activity.
The Art of Sitting
A basic understanding of anatomy will allow us to understand the intricacies of a good posture.
In simple the terms the spine has 3 curves designed to spread the load of the opposing vertical forces affecting the body – the downward effect of gravity and the upward ground reaction force which is created every time our foot strikes the floor: – backward facing curve called a lordosis in the neck (cervical) region – forward facing curve known as a kyphosis in the middle back (thoracic) area – backward-facing curve again in the low back (lumbar) area.
At the bottom of the large and irregularly shaped pelvic bones are two prominences known as the sit bones – think of them like compact rockers. They are designed for sitting on!
At the base of the spine is the sacrum – a large triangular bone that is also jointed with the left and right pelvic bones at the large sacroiliac joints. The sacrum then supports the spine and the pelvic bones support the sacrum – the sacrum is the link between the spine and pelvis. The shape of the sacrum and the way in which it articulates with the pelvic bones means that in the neutral position it is angled forwards. The upper surface also slopes forwards contributing to the lumbar curve.
There is very little movement at the sacroiliac joints and any alteration in the position of the pelvic bones will result in a change in the angle of the sacrum and the shape of the lumbar curve. The pelvis is sometimes referred to as the pelvic bowl, and imagining this bowl as filled with water can help to get our heads around the next bit. If the pelvis is rotated anteriorly (tilted forwards) spilling water over the front edge, the angle of the sacrum and the lumbar lordosis increases; conversely when the pelvis is rotated posteriorly (tilted backwards) spilling water over the back edge, the sacrum becomes more vertically and the lumbar lordosis flattens out. Pelvic tilting (rocking) in this way is the same movement we performed when practicing cat and dog tilt in four‐point kneeling.
How the Butterfly Works
Sitting cross legged on the Butterfly seat with its gently sloping angle will cue the pelvis into a correct postural alignment. From there there are many different ways to use your Buttafly seat to help promote good posture, allow relaxation and promote good pelvic health.
Supine Lying with the Butterfly
Lying on the Butterfly will also allow you realign your pelvic position. To achieve this come into a low bridge, place the palm of one hand on the sacrum, middle finger pointing down towards the coccyx. Use the other hand to position a Buttafly with the high end towards the feet under the pelvis so that the sacrum can fall away in the indent. Straighten out the legs one by one and make minor adjustments so that you are comfortable and the pelvis is resting in neutral and the low back is neither arching away from the floor nor dropping towards it. You will want the buttock flesh to be cushioned in between the sit bones and the Buttafly to avoid compression around the sacrum. The spine, now off-loaded and in neutral, can make any subtle adjustments organised by the natural intelligence of the body, there is nothing for you to do here. Breathe in deeply and feel yourself relax with a long, slow exhale long.

Who designed Elvie?
Elvis was designed by Tania Boler, an internationally recognised women’s health expert and the co-founder of Chiaro, an innovative technology brand specialising in wearable tech for women, by women. With a mission to develop bold and beautiful products that make a real difference to women’s lives, Chiaro launched their first product, the revolutionary pelvic floor exercise tracker Elvie, in autumn 2015.
Tania has always been passionate about the under-researched and taboo areas of women’s health. With degrees from both Oxford and Stanford Universities, she went on to complete a PhD in Sexual Reproductive Health and has published extensive research and several books on the subject. Armed with in-depth knowledge and a talent for normalising conversation around neglected areas of women’s health, Tania went on to work with the UN and Marie Stopes, always with the vision of helping all women have candid conversations about often difficult and intimate topics. Tania considers one of her biggest achievements during her time at the UN was launching the first ever UN Curriculum on Sexuality Education.
The idea behind founding Chiaro and launching Elvie came to Tania when she was pregnant with her first child in 2011. Tania became fascinated by how different countries look after women when they are recovering from childbirth. As her husband is French, she learnt how French women receive complimentary pelvic floor physio treatments after they have given birth, whereas women in the UK are offered no such help.
As a sexual health researcher Tania was shocked at how neglected this important set of muscles were; they are vital for women’s physical and mental wellbeing. Tania realised that learning the importance of exercising the pelvic floor is one of the last uncharted territories in women’s health. The idea of creating Elvie; a small, wearable technology device, was born.
The combination of her innovative idea and innate tenacity led to the creation of Chiaro, a women-led technology company. In 2013 she attracted Jawbone’s Alexander Asseily as co- founder, raised over two million pounds in funding, won three government grants and had her second child. Chiaro’s first product, Elvie launched in October 2015, has been widely heralded as ground-breaking technology; it has a patented system of force and motion sensors so that women instantly know if they’re doing the pelvic floor exercises correctly and chart their personal ‘LV score.
Who are EVB Sport?
EVB Sport is a sportswear company that designs and manufactures functional sportswear with a difference. It helps women to return or continue to exercise knowing their core muscles are supported.
Why is core so important?
There are approximately 640 muscles in the body. Some of which are the visible ones like biceps, triceps, glutes and quads. But what supports them and the rest of the body are the core muscle. The pelvic floor forms part of your core and sits at the base of your pelvis. The pelvic floor muscles are practically invisible and rarely spoken about, let alone exercised.
Lower back pain, abdominal discomfort, light bladder leakage, prolapse are symptoms of a weakened pelvic floor and if you exercise often the symptoms worsen.
Why EVB Sport?
EVB Sport Leggings and shorts act like a really good sports bra…for your core.
The technology in the sportswear mimics function of the pelvic floor muscles to create a hugging type effect. The elasticated high waist with compression uplift helps to stablise the internal organs and prevent them from bouncing up and down.
They encourage the correct position of the pelvis and cues the correct muscles to start working. They will stop you from actively over-bracing your muscles as you try to support the organs yourself or in response to your symptoms.
Why do you need to support your core muscles?
Your core is a your powerhouse – hence it’s name really! It facilitates movement – from reaching up to get a cup out of the cupboard to running a marathon. But it also houses your inner organs and your central nervous system.
A strong core:
- makes it easier to undertake physical activities
- improves balance and stability
- gives you confidence
What should I do if I have a weak core?
Having a weak core is something that can be worked on. EVB sportswear gives you strength so you don’t need to mask or hide your symptoms. They prevent injuries occurring by encouraging the correct position of the pelvis and the correct activation of your pelvic floor and other core muscles.
Remember we advice you to always discuss your symptoms with a specialist Womens Health Physiotherapist when possible. You can search for a physiotherapist in your area at www.csp.org.uk.
Who is most commonly effected by a weak core?
Inadequate support of the core muscles, pelvic floor, lower back and spine can cause irreversible damage, chronic pain and increased risk of injury.
1 in 3 women suffer from pelvic dysfunction. Among those considered most affected are:
Professional athletes who partake in high impact sport such as gymnasts, runners or long jumpers.
Pregnant women, post-pregnant women, or those who have given birth at any stage of their life.
Women who are experiencing menopause, or have already experienced menopause.
Women who have had gynaecological surgery e.g. a hysterectomy.
What are the additional risk factors that can increase a person’s risk of developing pelvic floor problems?
A history of back pain
Previous trauma to the pelvic region, such as a fall or pelvic radiotherapy
Chronic cough or sneeze (e.g. due to asthma, smoking or hayfever)
Being overweight, or having a BMI above 25
Heavy lifting on a regular basis – either at work or at the gym
Does the science support the design of EVB Sportswear?
Independent physiological tests show EVB sportswear activates the core muscles, engages the pelvic floor and supports lower back for increased muscular strength and performance.
It is for this reason that EVB sportswear is backed by the best physiotherapists and sports fitness professionals the world over.
Impact on hard surfaces creates pressure of 3 – 7 times body weight. Patent pending design engineered to mimic the body’s core muscles; create a comfortable ‘firming’ effect; prevents irreversible muscle and lower back damage and reduces the risk of long term damage and protects your core.
Testers of EVB sportswear reported increased support and comfort and demonstrated increased performance.
Independent trials show 71% pressure reduction on pelvic floor muscles with EVB sportswear.
50% of women with urinary incontinence a symptom of pelvic dysfunction reported zero leakage when exercising while wearing EVB sportswear.
100% of testers reported improved levels of confidence and support while wearing EVB sportswear.
Most importantly in a recent customer satisfaction survey 90% of our customers love our sportswear but more importantly again they are achieving their potential and reaching their goals.

Who are Intimina
Intimina is a Swedish brand that offers a range of products dedicated exclusively to addressing many aspects of women’s intimate health. They ensure that every product they create is medically informed and benefits from the research and oversight of their Medical Advisory Board. Since launch in 2009, they have continued to fulfil their aim to make intimate care products accessible to women around the world.
We are so lucky to be able to work with different brands and always make carefully informed choices before offering a product to you.
With any intimate object you need to make sure it is made from high quality materials that are totally safe for your body – medical grade silicone is a great option as it is toxin free doesn’t contain BPA or phthalates.
Other features we wanted to look for in a personal massager included the ability to have varying speeds and vibration patterns to find the perfect stimulation. Waterproof massagers meant confidence in the ability to clean your product and an ability to use your massager in different settings.
Intimina personal massagers meet all of our criteria:
They are made from medical grade silicone, are fully waterproof and benefit from a variety of speeds and rhythms.
They are easy to use and with lockable interfaces, each massager provides whisper quiet vibrations
Is a Personal Massager right for me?
Buying a personal massager is one of the most exciting projects anyone can undertake. However, the abundance of options can leave one feeling a little overwhelmed. We offer 2 different massagers to help take the guess work out of the decision.
Many women enjoy external stimulation to the clitoris. A contoured personal massager can allow you to explore this whether alone or with a partner.
Kiri is a palm sized personal massager with a sculpted shape designed to cradle and caress every part of your clitoris. It is sleek and petite, fits comfortably into the palm of your hand and and its grooved design means you can target where you experience the most enjoyment.
If you also want to be able to enjoy internal stimulation or would like to use a personal massager for dilating purposes Celesse with its elongated curve and flattened tip is personal massager is perfectly designed for internal or external stimulation.
I have never owned a personal massager should I feel embarrassed?
In short, no you should not!
It may feel like a big step exploring your sexuality but we hope we have taken some of the guess work out of this.
Firstly you are not alone – 44% of women between 18-60 have owned a personal massager.
The more you know your body and what you like, the more satisfying your sex life can be, both alone and with a partner. Exploring your body and taking ownership of your orgasms is not only enjoyable, it’s completely healthy.
One of the great things about massagers is that they’re not just a solo activity, they can easily be incorporated with your partner. A 2015 study showed that not only do men not feel hesitant about using vibrators, they actually find sex more appealing when massagers are involved and felt it brought them closer to their partners.
Regardless of whether you use one alone or with someone else, vibrators are a healthy expression of your sexuality. Even though we may not talk about it openly, we all use them – and that’s a good thing!
Soul Source Vaginal Dilators
What is dilation therapy?
The vagina is an elastic, muscular canal with a soft flexible lining. Constriction of the vagina can be caused by radiation therapy, surgery, ageing or may be due to involuntary spasms of the muscles of the vaginal wall. All of which can result in pain with sexual activity or difficulty in allowing your medical practitioner access as part of your medical treatment.
Vaginal dilation therapy is a treatment that may be recommended for women to help restore vaginal capacity, to expand the vagina in width and depth, to provide elasticity to tissues and also allow for comfortable sexual activity.
Soul Source dilators are selected for their unique shapes and material properties.
What’s the difference between diameter and circumference?
The measurements provided for our dilators are for diameter and length.
Diameter and circumference are two ways to measure a circular object.
Diameter is the distance through a circle, a straight line from any one point on the outside, through the center to the opposite side.
Circumference is the distance around a circle, starting at any fixed point, going around the outside and returning to the same point.
Imagine taking an trip around the world, starting and ending at the same place. The distance traveled would be the circumference of the earth. Now imagine tunneling through the center of the earth coming out again on the opposite side. This distance would be the diameter of the earth.
Below are the conversions from diameter to circumference for our dilators:
How do I use my dilators?
Dilator usage can vary depending upon the condition that they are prescribed for. There are several links on our clinicians page that address dilator usage, but we strongly recommend that you consult with a therapist or medical professional before beginning any type of treatment.
What lubricant should I use with my dilators?
We recommend our YES range of lubricants to be used with the dilators.
How can I clean my dilators?
Wash the dilators with warm water and mild soap. Pat dry and allow to fully air dry before storing them. We recommend that you store your silicone dilators wrapped in a clean cotton cloth; GCS dilators can be stored in the supplied storage pouch. Never soak your dilators in alcohol or sterilising solutions containing alcohol, especially with the rigid plastic or GCS dilators. Soul Source dilators may be wiped with an alcohol-based solution, but be sure to rinse off any residue before storing them.
Can dilators be sterilised by autoclave or boiling?
GCS and Rigid Plastic dilators can NEVER be boiled or autoclaved.
Silicone dilators may be sterilised by boiling for 15 minutes or by autoclave. If you have a problem with yeast infections, you may add two tablespoons of vinegar to two quarts of water for boiling.
What are Soul Source dilators made of?
Soul Source silicone dilators are hand-cast using 100% silicone rubber. Silicone rubber is flexible and resilient with a texture that resembles body tissue. Our GCS and Rigid Plastic dilators are hand cast using polyurethane plastic for situations where a rigid dilator is needed. For quality assurance, all of our dilators are inspected, washed, and sealed before shipping.
Why are the GCS dilators curved?
Soul Source GCS dilators were designed by a leading GCS surgeon to address the specific anatomical needs of GCS patients.
What is the difference between a dilator and a sex toy?
Sex toys are designed to provide sexual stimulation. Some vibrate; some are anatomically correct to resemble a penis. Dilators are therapeutic devices and can be used without the need for sexual stimulation. Sexual pleasure is not its purpose, the key is to use it as prescribed.
Can I return my dilators if I decide not to use them?
Unfortunately we cannot accept any dilator returns due to the intimate nature of the product. If you think that your dilator may be defective or if feel you may have received the wrong product, or are unhappy for any reason, please contact us to make special arrangements.
